As already got a bibliography of introductory textbooks in sociology and classical sociology manuals last update, I think it is time to offer a short bibliography of contemporary sociology textbooks (and given the large number
existing book, I made a small selection).
Probably the best known manuals of contemporary sociological theory is that of George Ritzer "Contemporary Sociological Theory" . It is a widely used manual and quite useful (personally, is the manual that I use myself when I have to check some data or information regarding authors and contemporary sociological theories). Another manual
well known is that of A. Giddens and J. Turner, "The social theory today ". However, I must point out that this book is more technical and more dirigiddo are specialists in the field, therefore, that you'll want to enter, I recommend the manual Ritzer.
As English authors, I recommend: "Contemporary Sociological Theory" , R. Flecha, L. Puig and J. Gómez. Well, from what I have seen, is a fairly comprehensive manual and a very clear and precise language.
The following manual that I think I can be useful is "Social Theory in the Twentieth Century" by Patrick Baert .
Besides these, there are other manuals as
"contemporary sociologies" Pierre Ansart . Manual is very characteristic with "wealth of information on sociological schools today, but it is also itself a sociological work"
" Sociological Theories from World War II " JC Alexander.
"Sociology of the Twentieth Century" G. Gurvirtch and W. Moore.
And if you still want to go further, I'd recommend:
- "The Golden Years of Sociology" by J. Picó. There is a manual of sociology itself, but interrelated sociological theory the sociocultural context and the institutionalization of the discipline, so it may contain useful information in some cases.
- "History of Sociological Analysis" T. Bottomore and R. Nisbert. While not a manual of contemporary sociology "per se", the latest of sociology is quite complete.
